Banyan is the largest of our St Lucia cottages, it is a historic wooden structure which was renovated and added to. The bedrooms and bathrooms are adjoining, and there are 4 separate beds plus optional baby cot, making this cottage particularly suitable for groups or larger families with young children.
The natural wood walls and hardwood floors create a warm and cozy feel. West Indian and Asian-inspired design elements add to its unique charm.
Banyan offers an indoor shower, a separate half bath and a beautiful outdoor shower built with natural stone. The kitchen is equipped with basic cooking utensils, gas stove, oven and full size fridge. The veranda has a dining room table which seats 6, and a comfortable lounge area. The living room can be used a common area or a third bedroom.
Please note that all our historic and newer accommodations are built in an eco-friendly, open and tropical style, with no window screens or air conditioning, only standing fans and mosquito nets. Balenbouche is best for adventurous travelers who are comfortable with the outdoors, do not require resort style amenities and are looking to experience true island life.

The story of Banyan
The original wooden 2 room structure was built in the 1960’s, and served as a home for the former estate caretaker and his family. In the early 1990’s, the house was renovated and expanded to include indoor bathrooms and a kitchen, living room and veranda. The first visitors who stayed in banyan were volunteers, family and friends. Over the years, various improvements have been made, including structural repairs, better furniture and fixtures, solar hot water and high speed internet.
Future renovation plans include painting or replacing some of the natural dark wood to brighten up the interior, and adding an additional deck and plunge pool.
