About Frangipani

The charming Frangipani St Lucia plantation cottage was built from largely reclaimed materials in a traditional West Indian fashion, to fit into the landscape of our historic property.Frangipani offers a bedroom with king bed and separate dressing area, a spacious bathroom with natural stone shower, a kitchenette and wooden deck (not shown on this floor plan), and a front porch. The open area all around the pitched roof allows for natural ventilation and lighting. Frangipani is the perfect getaway for couples and honeymooners. However, there is room for a single bed or baby cot. For older children or larger families, the Almond or Banyan cottage are more suitable. Frangipani is equipped with solar hot water, and a kitchenette with under counter fridge and hot plate.

Please note that all our historic and newer accommodations are built in an eco-friendly, open and tropical style, with no screens or air conditioning, only mosquito nets. Balenbouche is best for adventurous travelers who are comfortable with the outdoors, do not require resort style amenities and are looking to experience true island life.

The story of Frangipani

Frangipani was created from 2 abandoned buildings that we salvaged from the community of Fond st Jaques. This tropical hardwood is more resistant to the weather and termites, and more sustainable than concrete, or imported hardwood from South America. Many of the shutters, doors and fretwork were salvaged from other abandoned structures on the island. At the time it was built, there were no fancy sinks on the island, so we used a piece of driftwood and a stainless steel bowl. Like all our cottages, frangipani has solar hot water and high speed internet. Recently, we added a small kitchen and back deck with dining table. Everything in this cottage is bespoke and charming, making for an unforgettable experience.
